Spill the tea,but please don't spill the kool-aid!

Tips on how to rescue your carpet from dreaded red-dye spills

"Big Yikes! Somebody just spilled bright red Kool-Aid all over my brand new, sparkling, white carpet!"…

Don’t Panic, here's what to do!

No matter how careful we are, accidents happen and as tasty as Kool-Aid is, it can sure pack a mean punch (pun intended) when spilled on light colored carpets. Which is why we wanted to share some helpful tips and tricks with you that can aid you in evicting those dreadful Kool-Aid stains, and help your carpet return to its natural color.

Carpets and Red Kool-Aid Just Don’t Mix

We all love Kool-Aid – Mainly because It's a super cheap drink and without a doubt scrumptious and beloved by our kids, but the the reality is that the dyes in some of of our little ones’ fav flavors, like cherry, strawberry and fruit punch create a rich, very powerful shade of red, and if not tended to right away, any accidental drink spills can stain our very expensive fabrics and carpets super duper fast.

The truth is that these stains can be challenging, especially after they have been sucked into the carpet fibers like a sponge and have begun hunkering below the surface area. What’s the silver lining? The stain isn’t impossible to get out. What’s the downside: It’s not as easy as 1,2,3 - So be prepared to be patient!

What should I do? First things first:

Paper towels can be super absorbent and using them will help you to minimize the spread of the stain, by blotting-up as much of the spill as possible as soon as the spill takes place. Take care to blot without scrubbing.

Wet Vacs can be a Godsend during a Kool-Aid evasion. Trust me, If you have small children, a shop vac is a wonderful, wise and worthy investment. If you happen to have one, suck up as much of the spill as you can by going over the target area several times. Will this step totally remove the stain? No, but what it does do is reduce the immediate damage to your carpet and will make the next step of cleaning up the stain much easier and more effective.
